Shoulder Pain Treatment

Reach overhead and sleep on your side again

Shoulder Pain Treatment
Overview

What is joint pain?

The shoulder trades stability for movement, so small problems in the rotator cuff, bursa or joint capsule cause outsized pain — especially at night.

We distinguish tendon pain from a genuinely stiff capsule and from pain referred out of the neck, then treat the driver rather than the area.

Common symptoms

  • Pain lifting the arm above shoulder height
  • Night pain when lying on that side
  • Loss of rotation reaching behind your back
  • Weakness carrying or lifting
  • Painful clicking on overhead movement

What causes it

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy or tear
  • Subacromial impingement and bursitis
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
  • Shoulder osteoarthritis
  • Pain referred from the cervical spine
Our approach

How we treat shoulder pain treatment

1

Movement testing

Cuff, capsule and neck tests to separate tendon pain from stiffness.

2

Ultrasound review

A live look at the tendon and bursa while you move the arm.

3

Relieve then move

Guided injection to allow the range work that actually restores function.

4

Rebuild the cuff

Progressive rotator cuff and scapular strengthening.

Treatment options

What your plan might include

FAQs

Shoulder Pain Treatment questions, answered

How long does frozen shoulder last?+
Untreated it can run 18 months or more. Capsule treatment plus range work shortens it substantially.
Do rotator cuff tears always need surgery?+
No. Most degenerative tears do well with pain control and targeted strengthening.
Why is it worse at night?+
Lying down compresses the bursa and reduces blood flow to the tendon, which amplifies the pain.
