Trigeminal neuralgia produces brief, intense, electric-shock pain in the face, usually triggered by touch, chewing, cold air or brushing teeth. It is one of the most severe pain conditions we treat.
It responds poorly to ordinary painkillers and needs nerve-specific medication and, where that isn't enough, targeted blocks or radiofrequency treatment.
Distinguishing true neuralgia from dental, sinus and jaw joint pain.
MRI to look for vascular compression or other secondary causes.
Nerve-stabilising medication titrated slowly to control attacks.
Nerve blocks or radiofrequency when medication is not enough.
Carbamazepine-class therapy, carefully monitored.
Targeted anaesthetic and steroid for rapid relief.
Longer-lasting control for drug-resistant neuralgia.
For microvascular decompression assessment when indicated.

“I was living on soft food and avoiding conversation. After the block and the right medication, I've been attack-free for months.”
